Tree plantation drive launched in Rohtak

Rohtak, July 22 (UNI) A three day plantation drive 'Hara-Bhara Rohtak' got underway at here today with Member of Parliament, Mr Deepender Singh Hooda inaugurating the greenery drive in Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU).

Mr Hooda gave a clarion call to people of the town to join the plantation compaign and plant atleast one sapling for an environment friendly green Rohtak. He also planted a sapling in MDU campus on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hooda said that a greenery drive was the need of the hour for environmental and aesthetic reasons. He informed that during this three day plantation drive, about 1.5 lakh sapling would be planted, including 10,000 saplings in the MDU campus.

Earlier, MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dhankar delivered the welcome address and highlighted the developmental strides taken by the University. He said that apart from academic development, environmental drive including land-scaping, campus beautification and plantation on campus had been given due priority. He presented a Bonsai plant as memento to Mr.Hooda on this occasion.

This three day plantation drive was being organised under the aegis of voluntary organization - Sarv Hitkari Sewa with MDU as a partner institution.

Mr Hooda also laid the foundation stone of Department of Statistics at MDU.

The building of the Department of Statistics would be built at an estimated cost of Rs two crore in a span of one year.
