TN Govt should start Engineering Colleges: PMK

Tirunelveli, July 22 (UNI) PMK founder President S Ramadoss today demanded that the Tamil Nadu Government should come forward to start at least four Government Engineering Colleges in each district of the state in order to check irregularities in the admissions to the private and Self Financing Engineering Colleges.

Talking to newspersons here, Dr Ramadoss suggested that the existing Government Arts and Science colleges should be converted as evening colleges and during the day time those college premises should be utilised for starting new engineering colleges by the government.

Even as there was adequate power and ordinance with the government to control the private and Self Financing Colleges, it was not controlling these institutions, and as a result the innocent parents and their wards were put to sufferings, he claimed.

He also claimed that number of key officials post, including the 'Director's' in the office of the Directorate of Technical Education were kept vaccant for months together and other officials were easily cheating the government for their personal gains.

He demanded that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi should order an inquiry into this immediately.

Referring to the ongoing illegal sand quarrying at the Tamirabarani river beds in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts, Dr Ramadoss said he had information that sand from these quaries were smuggled into Kerala and from there the same had been exported to UAE.

He wanted Mr Karunanidhi to directly intervene and put an end to this issue. Otherwise the party would take out massive struggle in the coming days, he said.

He welcomed the state government's move to take over the cable television operations.

On the allegations that PMK would cross over to AIADMK front, Dr Ramadoss categorically denied and said there was no question at all for PMK to cross over the front, and it would continue with the DMK led DPA in the state.
