Rs 70 crore to be spent on power in Rohtak district
Rohtak, July 22 (UNI) In order to supply quality power to the consumers, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPN) have jointly initiated a comprehensive plan under which Rs 70 crore would be spent to strengthen the transmission and distribution system in Rohtak district during the next eighteen months.
This was disclosed today by Mr Deepender Singh Hooda, Member Parliament while inaugurating a 33 KV substation at Government Senior Secondary School here constructed at a cost of Rs 2.10 crore. The substation would benefit over 12,000 electricity consumers of 21 residential colonies of the town by way of continuity of power supply and better voltage.
Mr Hooda informed that two 132 KV substations were also being constructed at Sector 3 here and in Jassia and the construction work of two 33 KV substations at Bal Bhawan, Rohtak and Hassangarh was in full swing. The setting up of new substations and improvement of distribution network in the district was being carried out in view of the fact that it was an important part of the National Capital Region.
The UHBVN had started the segregation of domestic and tubewell load of seventy seven feeders of 11 KV level supplying power to rural areas. With the creation of new feeders 386 villages of the district would be benefited.
Mr Hooda pointed out that the town was shortly going to be the first of the state where electricity would be supplied to nearly 9000 consumers through underground cable under a pilot project. The the town would also have the first ever un-manned 33KV substation in the state.
Besides this, as many as 4189 people living below poverty line in 146 villages would receive free of cost domestic connections under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna. The prospective consumers of this category would also be provided with free of cost Compact Fluorescent Lamps.
Emphasising the need for energy conservation, he said, the state did not have sufficient natural resources such as water and coal, which were required for power generation. In the absence of these, every unit of electricity was generated by incurring more expenditure as compared to many other states, he added.
Giving details of the distribution works completed during the tenure of present Government, he further stated that Rs 25 crore had been spent in the district by Haryana Power Utilities.
