Reservation for SC, ST and OBC in UP police stations

Lucknow, July 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has ordered posting of police personnel of Schedule Caste (SC), Schedule Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) as Station House Officers and Police Inspectors in 50 per cent of the police stations in the state.

''Ms Mayawati has ordered to reserve 23 per cent for SC and ST and 27 per cent for the OBC candidates as SHO or inspectors and has issued a government order with an immediate effect,'' principal secretary of Home Department J N Chamber said here.

Muslims had been included in the OBC category and would be given reservation according to the proportion.

Unavailability of OBC candidates would lead to posting of SC and ST candidates in their place.

Fifty per cent of the police stations in UP would recruit general category candidates for the two posts.
