Pratibha Patil should not become ''Rubber stamp'' President: Medha
Barwani, MP, July 22 (UNI) Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar has described the election of Ms Pratibha Patil as the first woman President as a matter of rejoicing.
Ms Patkar told UNI here that Ms Patil should use her constitutional powers with sensitivity and strength and should not play the part of a ''Rubber stamp'' president. Politicisation of the Presidential polls was unfortunate.
She said Ms Patil would have to rise from the image of being representative of a particular political party and become representative of the whole country.
Ms Patkar hoped that Ms Patil would be sensitive towards woman and rehabilitation policies.
She added that woman should get 50 per cent reservation in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas.
