Police not resorted to lathicharge on TDP leaders: Jana
Hyderabad, July 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today said the police had not resorted to batoncharge on the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLAs and MLCs near Obulapuram Mining Company in Anantapur district when they tried to enter the company yesterday.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Reddy said the police arrested TDP leaders to maintain law and order in the area and were released immediately.
No additional forces were used, as alleged by the TDP, as already heavy forces were deployed at the company, he said, adding probe would be ordered into the incident occurred with a top police official.
Meanwhile, the TDP leaders were resorting to agitation before the Rayadurg police station, demanding entry into the company.
TDP had organised dharnas in all districts, protesting against the arrest of their leaders.
The TDP's allegation was that the Government had awarded the mining lease to the company by violating the norms and regulations,, causing loss to the exchequer.
