Musical concert sought in memory of Kashmir's Mehdi Hassan

Srinagar, July 22 (UNI) Prominent writers and lyricists of Kashmir have demanded an annual musical concert in the remembrance of noted singer Ghulam Nabi Sheikh who died in ''mysterious circumstances'' while travelling from Jammu to New Delhi on board a train in 2003.

The noted writers, Farooq Nazki, Ashraf Sahil and Rafiq Masoodi, said the concert should be held at an all India level.

They were speaking at a function organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy in association with the G N Sheikh Memorial Committee to observe the fourth death anniversary of Ghazal king, also known as Kashmir's Mehdi Hassan.

On the occasion, the Committee awarded popular singer Abdul Rashid Farash and music director Krishen Ji Langoo for their contribution to Kashmiri music.

Prominent singers, including Mehmeet Syed paid tributes by rendering some famous compositions of their teacher.
