More than 60 peacocks died of food poisoning
Hubli, July 22 (UNI) More than 60 peacocks died of food poisoning in Balehosur village and Guttal village in Gadag and Haveri districts respectively today.
Police said that the peacocks had eaten maize and jowar seeds sowed in the field and the number of deaths may increase.
The seeds were usually mixed with poison before sowing to prevent pests being attracted to it.
Senior officials of both Animal Husbandry and Forest Department have rushed to the villages.
It may be recalled here that last year also 20 peacocks died in Jigalur on National Highway between Shigaon and Hubli.
