Metro touches a new high

New Delhi, July 22 (UNI) Setting yet another benchmark, the Delhi Metro carried a record 7.36 lakh commuters and earned Rs. 81.6 lakh yesterday, improving upon its previous best figures for a single day.

The previous best was 6.97 lakh commuters on November 24, 2006 in view of the heavy rush at India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan.

The highest number of passengers in a single day, this year, was 6.78 lakh on July 11.

Yesterday, the rush was maximum on the Blue Line between Indraprastha to Dwarka Sector-9 with 2.92 lakh passengers travelling on this route, followed by 2.37 lakh commuters on the Shahdara and Rithala (Red Line) route.

As many as 2.07 lakh passengers travelled from Vishwavidyala to Central Secretariat. Sixty-two trains ferried the passengers throughout the day with 1274 trips.

On an average on Saturdays, about 5 to 5.5 lakh passengers travel on the Metro. Yesterday, it increased by a healthy 47 per cent and the revenues going up 24 per cent.
