Major ammunitions haul in Dimapur
Kohima, Jul 22 (UNI) A huge cache of ammunitions was seized by police from a hotel lodger on the Golaghat Road area of Dimapur town last evening and one person was arrested in this connection.
According to official sources the Assam Rifles got some intelligence information that some ammunitions were being smuggled to Dimapur to deliver to some unknown persons.
Assam Rifles contacted the police, who raided the hotel room and recovered 635 numbers of assorted ammunitions from the possession of one Noor Khan (48) from Kheti Gaon under Porampot Police Station in Imphal East District of Manipur.
The worth of the ammunitions was estimated at about Rs 1,77,200.
The live ammunitions included 556 numbers of AK-47, 50 rounds of 7.62 mm self-loading Rifles (SLR), 29 rounds of .303 Rifles and a Magazine of .303.
Police registered a case under the Arms Act and investigation was on to ascertain any link with any underground factions and to track the entire racket, sources added.
