Left parties on hunger strike over land to poor
Hyderabad, July 22 (UNI) The CPI and CPI(M), under the leadership of general secretaries K Narayana and B V Raghavulu respectively, launched an indefinite hunger strike here demanding that the Andhra Pradesh Government implement the recommendations of the K Ranga Rao Land Committee on distribution of lands and house sites to the poor in the state.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Raghavulu alleged that the government was not sincere in implementing the recommendations of the Committee. The Left parties would intensify their stir, if the government did not respond to their demands, he added.
Demanding that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy make an announcement on the land distribution in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly, he said indefinite hunger strikes would be launched in every district tomorrow.
Mr Narayana alleged that the government was not responding to their demands even after the Left parties launched a 'land occupation' struggle in the state.
Earlier, they organised a rally from Sundarayya Vignan Kendra to Indira Park in support of the strike.
