Thiruvananthapuram, July 22 (UNI) In a novel attempt, the Kerala government will recreate the proceedings of the state's first Legislative Assembly, the first ever Communist government headed by Chief Minister E M S Namboodiripad in 1957.

Addressing a press conference here, state Sports and Youth Affairs Minister M Vijayakumar today said the aim of organising such a rare programme was to inculcate in the new generation an affinity towards democratic values and to create an awareness in them about the primacy in the law-making process and to rekindle them the memories of our rich past.

College students would enact the then Chief Minister E M Sankaran Namboothiripad, Opposition leader P T Chacko, Ministers like C Acutha Menon, Prof Mudassery, Smt K R Gauri, T A Majeed and MLAs Pattom Thabyu Pillai, C H Muhammed Koya, P Govinda Pillai, Joseph Chazhikkadan, E Gopalakrishan Menon, Rosamma Punnuose and Kusumom Joseph.

They would also recreate the selected proceedings, including presenting Bills, adjournment motion and questions from the different session of the first Kerala Assembly at the old Assembly hall in the Secretariat complex here during the one-day programme christened as ''Students Assembly-1957''.

The programme would be inaugurated by state Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan here tomorrow, he said.

Mr Vijayakumar said the relevance of two important Bills on education and agriculture presented in the first Assembly had not lost even today.

The field publicity wing of the Department of Information and Public Relations, the Legislative Assembly Secretariat and the Archaeological Department were jointly arranging an exhibition, unfolding the history of the Legislative Assembly, he added.
