Srinagar, July 22 (UNI) Hundreds of migrant Kashmiri Pandits took part in a 'maha yagya' at Khir Bhawani 'Asthapan' in Anantnag district today after a gap of nearly 18 years.

A large number of Muslims from nearby villages were also present at the 'Asthapan' at Manzgam to lend a helping hand to their Pandit brethren in organising this function. The Hindus and Muslims then prayed for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.

Addressing the gathering, state Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar said Kashmir has a rich tradition of secularism and the people preserved it even in odd times.

He said Kashmir is a place of 'Sants' and 'Sufis' who taught the lesson of communal harmony all along their life. Hindus and Muslims always lived like brothers in Kashmir and never allowed any encouragement to communalism in the state, Mr Zargar added.

The Minister later visited Mata Kulwageshwari Ashtapan Kulgam where a similar function was organised.
