Jeweller takes police for a ride to settle personal score

Fatehabad, July 22 (UNI) A jeweller here took police for a ride and used it to send his ''friend'' behind bars after falsely accusing him of committing a major theft from his jewellery shop.

Police yesterday filed an application before a local court seeking action against the complainant in the case of alleged theft of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 18 lakhs from his shop.

The complainant Chanan Ram of the Jagdish Jewelers Fatehabad had lodged an FIR with the police alleging that his friend Satnam Singh had stolen 1.700 kg of gold and 5 kg of silver from his shop after intoxicating him.

The police arrested Satnam Singh and interrogated him in police custody for 11 days but could not solve the theft mystery.

Later, based on the report of the lie detector test, the investigating officer found that Chanan Ram had lodged false complaint against Satnam Singh due to some personal grudge against him.

The police has now initiated process of seeking discharge of Satnam Singh and prosecuting Chanan Ram for misleading the police with his false complaint.
