HC issues notice to Guj Govt over reservation backlog issue
Ahmedabad, July 22 (UNI) A division bench of Chief Justice Y R Meena and Justice Akil Kureshi of Gujarat High Court today issued notices to the state government, asking it to justify why reservation backlog in various government departments had not been filled up despite its earlier orders issued in 1998.
The State government had recently filed an affidavit before the High Court informing it that as on July 1, this year, there were only 6,393 posts vacant in reservation backlog categories in various government departments.
It was submitted to show that the State government had taken the matter seriously and tried to fill up the vacant posts as early as possible.
Through the prompt actions taken by various government departments to clear the backlog of vacancies of reservation in Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Socially and economically backward classes, the vacant posts have been reduced to 6,393 from 9,353 on January 1, 2007.
In its submission, the State government also stated that several administrative departments had sent its requisition to various recruitment agencies of the State government to fulfil their vacancies. The notice is answerable till August 1.
