Govt to supply additional Irrigation water: Minister
Eluru, July 22 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government would supply an additional 21 lakh acre Irrigation water in the state during the present Khariff season, according to Agriculture Minister N Rahuveeera Reddy Talking to newspersons here during his visit to the site for the proposed Horticulture University at Venkataramannagudem village in Tadepalligudem mandal yesterday, Mr Reddy said the Government would supply another ten lakh acre soon.
The minister said the Government would modernise Krishna, Godavari and Delta areas to supply irrigation water to the tail-end lands.
The Government would urge the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sanction funds from Asian Development Bank(ADP) during his visit to the state, he added.
He said Rs 22,300 crore had been earmarked in the budget to encourage agriculture and allied professions. The Government would select 25,000 'adarsha rythulu' (model farmers) by next year.
Mr Reddy said 1,32,000 quality buffalos and cows were purchased from other states so far to benefit the farmers.
