Four killed, one hurt in Kashmir accidents

Srinagar, July 22 (UNI) Four people were killed and another wounded in separate accidents across the Kashmir valley since last evening, police said today.

They said a 10-year old boy, Mohammad Rafiq Khatana, of Oteeda Nagsari in Kalaroos area of frontier Kupwara district died due to landslides triggered by heavy rains last evening.

Police said a Kashmir University student, 23-year-old Afshana of Khujpora Nowshera in the city, drowned in Lidder nullah in tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir.

Her body was recovered by police and civil defence personnel and handed over to Kashmir University Head of Education Department Prof G M Malik.

Another person, Abdul Majeed Magray (26) of Kandi area of Kupwara district, fell into a deep well and drowned. Fire officials took out his body, police said.

They said a truck hit a motorcycle at Awantipora on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, causing on the spot death of motorcyclist Zahoor Ahmad Shah of Tuli Nowpora in Kulgam district.

His pillion-rider, identified as Farooq Ahmad Shah, was also injured in the accident, police added.
