Death toll rises to four in JEMCO accident

Jamshedpur, Jul 22 (UNI) With the death two more workers in Tata Main Hospital here, the toll of accident in Jamshedpur Engineering and Machine Company (JEMCO) has gone up to four.

The accident ocurred on July 19 inside the factory when a ladle carrying molten iron fell on the wokers due to malfunctioning of the gear.

One person was burnt alive on the spot while another critically injured died next day. Altogether 11 persons were injured, four of them seriously.

Two workers, who were admitted in the burnt unit of TMH, succumbed to their injuries last night, hospital sources said adding that the condition of another foreman was stated to be critical.

Several political leaders, including Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto and former chief minister Arjun Munda visited the hospital to console the affected family members.

The leaders, however, blamed the management for not providing adequate safety measures inside the plant.

Meanwhile, The JEMCO management had announced job to the widow of Bimal Panda, who died on the spot and also decided to give job or compensation to the other victims, who died later, the company sources said.
