Bol bom devotees to start their footmarch

Baripada, July 22 (UNI) Come the holy 'Shravana' and it's time for the devotees of Shiva to throng his abodes to make their wishes came true.

July 23, first Monday in the month of Shravana, is the day when the Shiva followers, popularly known as 'Bol Bom' or 'Kawariyas' visit the various shrines of Lord Shiva across the country.

Kawariyas of all ages here collect the holy water from the river Budhabalanga in a pot and walk barefoot to Manatri, 45 kms from here to pour water on this God of Destruction and invoke His blessings on the occasion.

Of late women devotees have also joined the Kawariyas in their footmarch from here to Manatri and Simla with pots of water on their heads.

Thousands of such 'Bol bom' devotees dressed in saffron colour attires walk all the way singing songs in praise of Lord Shiva. Many of them dress like the God and many wear saffron T-shirts and shorts with animal prints.

Traders selling such dresses and pots also make brisk business during the month.
