'Barati' dies after being hit by bullet

Sangrur, July 22 (UNI) A 'barati' (member of marriage party) was killed when a shot fired by the maternal uncle of the bridegroom hit him at a marriage palace in the town this morning, police here said.

According to the police during the reception ceremony of the 'baraat', the bridegroom's uncle Kewal Chand pulled out his licensed revolver and fired a volley of shots in the air to singal the arrival of the marriage party. However one of the shots hit Dev Singh, a member of the 'baraat' and he died on the spot.

The police have registered a case against Kewal Chand, who absconded after the incident.
