8 debt-ridden farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha

Nagpur, July 22 (UNI) Eight debt-ridden farmers have committed suicide in the last two days in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, according to Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation.

The eight farmers, who ended their lives included two from Chandrapur district and one each from Washim, Yavatmal, Wardha, Amravati, Gondia and Gadchiroli districts, a VJAS press release here said.

With this, the number of farmers who have ended their lives so far during the year has touched 521. These included 70 in January, 86 in February, 82 in March, 90 in April, 79 in May, 68 in June and 46 in July, the release said.

VJAS said there have been 134 suicides in Yavatmal district, 87 in Amravati, 62 in Akola, 77 in Washim, 57 in Buldhana, 42 in Wardha, 13 in Nagpur, 18 in Bhandara, 19 in Chandrapur, 6 in Gadchiroli and 6 in Gondia.
