40 per cent decline in militancy incidents in J
Srinagar, July 22 (UNI) There has been 40 per cent decrease in militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past, according to the state police.
Speaking at a function here, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, S M Sahai attributed the decrease to anti-militancy operations carried out by the security forces across the state.
However, he said during the past 17 years of turmoil, about 1400 officers and men of the Jammu and Kashmir Police gave supreme sacrifices to bring the militancy down to this level.
He said there were number of killings of police personnel in Kashmir last year. ''But with astute professionalism, we have been able to curtail these killings to minimum,'' he added.
