Plans to hold rural Sports Tournament at district-level
Patiala, July 21 (UNI) The All-India Rural Sports Tournament has received a major boost as the budget allocation has gone up from Rs 4 crore last year to Rs 46 crore in the current financial year.
According to a press note issued here today by the Executive Director of the NIS, Mr Laxman Singh Ranawat, the NIS was working out a comprehensive plan, in consultation with all the States and Union Territories, for holding the district-level rural sports tournaments in all the 621 districts of the country. Ten sports disciplines are likely to be covered in each district, including indigenous games.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has planned to broadbase sports at the grassroot level in the country along with the Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan scheme.
The North East Sports Festival was also planning to organise the event on a much larger scale. The National Sports Festival for Women; the Scheme of Promotion of Sports and Games in schools, colleges, universities and the Sports Scholarship Scheme were also being thoroughly revamped in a big way.
