Panchayat Raj employees on stir against GO

Hyderabad, July 21 (UNI) About 14,000 employees of Panchayat Raj Engineering Department today resorted to an indefinite hunger strike opposing the state govenrment's ''decision'' to bifurcate the department into Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply Engineering departments.

Joint Action Committee of Panchayat Raj Engineering Department Employees Chairman S Brahma Reddy said in a release that the hunger strike was organised to oppose the GO 508 providing for the bifurcation of the department.

The employees would intensify the strike if the government did not withdraw the GO soon, he warned.
