NCP to contest all seats in Meghalaya

Chandigarh, July 21 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will contest all the 60 assembly seats in Meghalaya in the coming elections in the state.

''We will contest all the seats in Meghalaya on our own and are confident of making the next government in the state,'' party national secretary T P Peethambaram said while talking to reporters here.

He said NCP had become quite strong in Meghalaya under the guidance of party leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma in the past few years.

The NCP would also field its candidates in the coming Municipal Corporation elections in Punjab, he said.

Mr Peethambaram also demanded formation of a state assembly for the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, Mr Kamal Gupta has been appointed as general secretary cum press secretary of the Chandigarh unit of the NCP.

The appointment was announced by Mr Peethambaram on the recommendation of Punjab unit president of the NCP Principal Gurcharan Singh.
