Karnal, Jul 21 (UNI) Six inmates of Karnal-based government-run Nari Niketan have been booked by the police for causing damage to the institute.

Police said Sheela, Shoba, Anita, Nazia Begum, Sapna and Rani have been booked on the complaint of Nariniketan Superintendent Rajni Malik under Sections 147, 148, 186, 427, 504 and 506 IPC and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Many of the 60 inmates of the Nari Niketan had allegedly thrown bricks, broken flower pots and removed window grills, protesting against the long power cuts and ''inhuman living conditions'' yesterday forcing the administration to call police.

Nari Niketan girls--mostly from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Haryana--alleged that 60 girls were staying in a place having the capacity for 25 only under inhuman conditions.

They were often beaten by the Nari Niketan staff, they alleged.
