MP Cong congratulates first woman President

Bhopal, July 21 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress described the victory of UPA-Left nominee Pratibha Patil in the presidential election as historic.

State Congress President Subhash Yadav attributed Ms Patil's victory to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who fielded her, as she was inspired by the feeling of social justice, equality and woman empowerment.

Congress General Secretary V Narayan Sami, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, state Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal and other party leaders and office bearers congratulated Ms Patil.

The ruling BJP said victory and loss are a part and parcel of democratic process adding the presence of BJP-supported Independent Bhaironsinh Shekhawat raised the glory of the Republic.

Congratulating Ms Patil, BJP spokesperson Umashankar Gupta said the issue raised during the election in Mr Shekhawat's presence were not less important. He said the BJP had to suffer loss because of 11 invalid votes.
