MNNIT to examine student's sex change claim
Allahabad, July 21 (UNI) The administration of Moti Lal Nehru National Institute of Technolocy (MNNIT) here decided to examine the veracity of the claim made by a student about change of sex, by constituting a medical board comprising experts and surgeons.
The student of BTech final year Amjad Ali has claimed gender change and created sensation in the institute. He has now opted for the name Nadia now.
Dean Planning and Administration, and Head of Computer Science and Engineering department Prof A K Mishra, who produced the student Amjad before the media last evening said he came to know about this extreme step only on July 16.
Prof Mishra said there was nothing unusual about the boy. He used to live in a boys' hostel and behaved like a normal boy. College administration came to know about his abnormality only when he submitted an application that he is ''undergoing sex change procedures'' and wants to ''live like a girl'' and pleaded for a room in girls hostel.
Prof Mishra said that in a bid to help the student, a room in the institute's Executive Development Centre had been allotted for the time being, and all necessary arrangements had been made for the facility of the student.
Amjad Ali had also requested that he may be allowed to attend classes as a girl and fare through placement activities as a girl'.
Interacting with media persons last evening, Ali said the traits of girls were present in him since childhood and it gradually evolved with time. Ali claimed that he also sensed the evolution of feminity taking place and leading him to take such a revolutionary step.
Ali further apprised that he was operated by his mother, who is a doctor by profession. He also praised the cooperation of MNNIT administration maintained that his colleagues, including girls, never tried to mock him on this issue.
Ali seemed optimistic about the future and said he would like to face campus recruitment as a girl and would continue to lead normal life of a girl.
