Media should be a link between politician and common man: CM

Panaji, July 21 (UNI) Reiterating his commitment to take the administration to the common man through reforms within six months, Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat urged the media to act as a link between the politician and the common man, highlighting burning issues through ''fair journalism''.

Inaugurating the ''Goa State Marathi Patrakar Sangh'', affiliated with the All India Marathi Patrakar Parishad at Kala Academy here today, the Chief Minister said the people would feel the impact of administration reforms he has just launched within six months.

The role of the media was tremendous in democracy and it should champion the cause of the common man while highlighting the problems of the society and the responses of the politicians through ''fair and unbiased criticism''.

''The common man should be given the centre-stage in politics of Goa,'' he said, adding that he would arrange issue of different certificates including that of birth and death at taluk level shortly as part of his commitment to the aam aadmi.'' President of All India Marathi Journalists Parishad Raja Bhau Shinde, general secretary Asutosh Joshi, Goa Unit president Raju Naik, besides several journalists and non-journalists were present on the occasion.

Former editor of Lokmat Madhukar Bhave delivered the key note address highlighting the role of the media and the politicians since Independence. He urged the media to rededicate themselves to the cause of the society and ensure its bright future.
