Life crippled in Handwara against rape, murder of girl

Baramulla, July 21 (UNI) Life was paralysed in Handwara today as complete shut down was observed in protest against the rape and murder of a girl student by unidentified persons yesterday.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads.

Work in government offices and commercial establishments was also effected due to the spontaneous strike in protest against the incident.

Meanwhile, police have taken into custody ten people for questioning.

The Jammu and Kashmir police has announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone who provides any information about the girl's killer.

Superintendent of Police, Handwara, Haseeb Mughal said anyone providing a clue about the murder of Tabinda Jan in Handwara would be rewarded.

He said the identity of the person, who will help police reach the killer, will be kept confidential.

Police recovered the body of Jan, a student of Uqaab Public School, Handwara from orchards between Langate and Batpora.

She was kidnapped, raped and later murdered by slitting her throat by some unidentified persons.

The incident rocked the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly yesterday.
