Jharkhand Deputy CM terms Patil's win as historic

Jamshedpur, July 21 (UNI) Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto today termed as 'historic' the thumping victory of UPA-Left-backed candidate Pratibha Patil over NDA-supported Independent candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in the Presidential election.

Mr Mahto told UNI that the win also exposed the NDA's character, which opposed the first woman candidate for the country's highest post, while the UPA created history by fielding Mrs Patil.

The move also showed the UPA's pro-women stance, Mr Mahto added.
