It's hot and humid in plans; Delhi gets some rains

New Delhi, July 21 (UNI) With hot and humid weather conditions prevailing over the north-west plains, Delhi today received light showers ending over a week-long lull in the monsoon activity.

The rains, which hit the Capital at 1545 hours, provided Delhiites some respite from the humid conditions experienced over the last week.

The rainfall followed by a heavily overcast sky in the city brought down maximum temperature to 35.2 degree Celsius, from 36.6 Degree Celsius yesterday.

The South-West Monsoon was active today over Kerala and most places in Lakshadweep.

Vadakkancherry reported a maximum of 12 cm rainfall, local weather office said.

Meanwhile, two more people were killed in rain related incidents in Kerala taking the toll to 23 so far.

Except Punjab and Haryana, which had some overnight rains, people groaned under hot weather conditions in the plains where humidity was on the rise.

It was recorded 80 per cent in Amritsar following trace rainfall.

In Ludhiana, it was 70 per cent in the wake of 0.2 mm rains.

However, moderate rains lashed Madhopur and Nangal Dam site in Punjab, respectively recording 8.0 mm and 14.0 mm rainfall till this morning.

Rains also lashed some areas in Haryana with Kalka recording 7 mm, followed by Panchkula measuring 4 mm.

Certain areas in Himachal Pradesh also received light to moderate rain till 0830 hours today. Nagrota Surian with 25.5 mm rain was the wettest place in the state.

A cloud burst near Karpat village in the tribal district of Lahaul Spiti in Himachal Pradesh washed away a wooden bridge and extensively damaged peas crop.

In some parts of UP including Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Aligarh and Mainpuri drought like situation has emerged due to lack of rains.
