Hot, humid weather prevails in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jul 21 (UNI) Hot and humid weather conditions prevailed in the plains in north-west India following light to moderate rain at isolated places in the region overnight.

Except for few places in Punjab and Haryana, which received rain, people groaned under hot weather conditions in the plains where higher levels of humidity was recorded.

The humidity at Amritsar touched 80 per cent following trace rainfall. Ludhiana, too, recorded high humidity at 70 per cent in the wake of 0.2 mm rain. However, moderate rain lashed Madhopur and Nangal Dam site in Punjab, respectively recording 8.0 mm and 14.0 mm rainfall till this morning.

Rains also lashed some areas in Haryana with Kalka recording 7 mm, followed by Panchkula measuring 4 mm and Karnal 1.4 mm. Ambala reported trace rainfall.

Certain areas in Himachal Pradesh also received light to moderate rain till 0830 hours. Nagrota Surian with 25.5 mm rain was the wettest place in the state. Una measured 19.2 mm, Kahu 19.0 mm, Guler 15.5 mm, Naudan 11.0 mm and Berthin 5.0 mm rain. Sundernagar, Kalpa and Kasol areas also had rainfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were also lashed by rain and the capital town recorded 3.1 mm rainfall till this morning.

Humid weather conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas following trace rainfall. The city recorded the maximum humidity at 80 per cent.

The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
