Heavy rains in NE in next 48 hours

Agartala, July 21 (UNI) The Weatherman today predicted moderate to heavy rains across North East and Gangetic West Bengal in the next few days following activation of southwest monsoon.

Indian Meteorological Department officials said an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-troposphere level laid over Northern Bay of Bengal on July 12 and under its influence, a low-pressure area formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off covering NE, Orissa and West Bengal coasts.

The axis of the monsoon trough passed through normal position early last week but the western end of the monsoon trough gradually shifted northwards and laid close to the Himalayan foothills on July 18, IMD officials said.

Southwest monsoon is also active over Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Asom, Meghalaya Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram this week ICAR, Tripura Centre, Technical Officer of Agrometorological Advisory Service Dhiman Daschoudhury referring to the report of National Centre Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) stated.

Isolated extreme heavy to heavy rains will occur at a most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Asom, Tripura and Meghalaya in next 48 hours.

Wind speed might increase with the average speed of 4-6 km per hour. Day and night temperature is expected to be normal and might vary from 30 to 32 and 21 to 23 degrees Celsius respectively, Mr Daschoudhury indicated.

Record shows, about 1910.7 mm rains have been recieved at Tripura this year so far, which is about 455 mm more than the normal. Annual average rainfall in Tripura is 2200 mm.
