HC issues notice to Govt on M Pharm admission fees
Chennai, July 21 (UNI) Madras High Court today ordered notice to the Government of Tamil Nadu and three other respondents based on a petition filed by a student, seeking a direction to form a permanent committee to fix fees structure.
Justice V Dhanapalna ordered notice after accepting the petition filed by G Balasubramanyam, who had applied for the M Pharm course in the current academic year.
In his petition, Balasubramanyam submitted that he had applied for the M Pharm course for the academic year 2007-08 and was allotted a seat in the K M College of Pharmacy in Madurai.
Later, he was informed by the Selection Committee Secretary (Medical Education) to report at the college on or before June 13, 2007.
The Secretary also informed him orally to pay a sum of Rs 75,000 as tuition fees and special fees.
However, when he approached K M College of Pharmacy on June 13, the college authorities, the third respondent in the case, asked him to pay Rs 1.5 lakh as the fees.
Though he paid Rs 75,000, the college authorities did not accept the amount and refused to give him more time to remitt the balance amount.
Subsequently, he could not get admission, he said.
He prayed the court to give directions to the Government of Tamil Nadu, ( the first respondent), Selection Committee Secretary, Medical Education (the second respondent) to admit him to the course and direct the respondents one and two to form a permanent committee to fix fees structure.
He also prayed the court to direct the Egmore Police Commissioner to act on a complaint filed against the respondents two and three and direct the state government to take necessary departmental action against the bureaucrats and officials, who violated the admission norms.
