Haryana: 1.20 lakh jatropha plants distributed to farmers

Chandigarh, July 21 (UNI) The Centre for Research and Application in Plant Tissue Culture, Hisar has provided 1.20 lakh plants of Jatropha to the farmers and has developed technology for commercial multiplication of sugarcane, safed musli, guava, aloe vera and eucalyptus.

Stating this here today, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said a grant of Rs 28 lakh has been provided for 13 research and development projects received from scientists all over the state. Such initiatives had given boost to the morale of scientists, he added.

The Centre for Research and Application in Plant Tissue Culture was set up by Haryana State Council for Science and Technology.

He said the Department was involved in remote sensing applications and GIS techniques through Haryana State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Hisar, the premier agency for such projects in Haryana.

It had completed 62 projects so far and the prominent among these included wasteland mapping, crop acreage and production estimation, channelising and remodelling of Badshahpur drain.
