Grievance redressal mechanism cells being set up in J and K

Srinagar, July 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police has decided to strengthen grievance redressal mechanism at all levels in the organisation to restore greater confidence among the people.

Addressing the officers and all ranks at first Police Darbar here today, Director General (DG) of Police Kuldeep Khuda sought their suggestions in further improving grievances redressal mechanism.

He referred to the public hearings being held by officers at various levels and said this has proved fruitful in solving the problems of people in a very cordial and better way.

'' By this mechanism we get feedback directly from the people which can help us in improving in policing', he added.

Listing out his priorities, the Director General of Police said that police stations, armed units and other such establishments having large police-public interface, would be modernised with availability of latest equipments to serve the people better.

He said all ranks of the force have to remain fully prepared to effectively meet the challenges and come up to the expectation of the people.

Mr Khuda, who took as state police chief recently, said much has been done and more remains to be done and we have to keep ourselves ready to make any sacrifice in protecting life and property of people.

The Director General of Police said people have many hopes with the police and it is incumbent upon all the ranks to meet their aspirations and to be ready to help them when in need.

He asked the jawans to be decent with the people as they represent the force of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which earned their country-wide laurels during the past 17 years they have to be people-friendly and ensure that civilians are in no way harmed during frisking and routine checking and nakas.

The police chief underscored the need for maintaining the police- public friendly relations at all levels for restoring the confidence among the people in the system of functioning.

He said ''We are meant to serve the people and protect their interests so that they fully realise that police is their own force and meant for their betterment and welfare.'' Mr Khuda said while the good work by the officers and jawans would be encouraged, but at the same time any misconduct and dereliction of duty would also be viewed seriously.
