Gaikwad meets civic chief for Dharavi redevelopment
Mumbai, July 21 (UNI) North Central District MP Eknath Gaikwad today met Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Jairaj Phatak and demanded that the Corporation should allot 750 sq ft area to tenants residing in the BMC's estate properties at Dharavi.
Mr Gaikwad and his daughter Varsha, the MLA from Dharavi, called upon Mr Phatak and said the civic chief should take a stand to protect the interests of its tenants.
In the meeting, Mr Gaikwad told the civic chief that there are many properties where the BMC's estate department has built colonies at Dharavi and tenants in the area should get the benefits that the Corporation is giving to tenants in other areas.
Mr Phatak assured that the interests of the tenants will be protected by the corporation and the tenants will get their dues in the development of Dharavi.
There are in all three BMC colonies in Labour Camp, Shahu Nagar and Kumbharwada in Dharavi that have more than 100 buildings that houses the tenants, many of whom are the employees of the Corporation.
Mr Gaikwad said ''The Central and state governments are spending crores of rupees for developing Dharavi, and the tenants who are living in BMC-owned properties should be protected by the BMC or they will not get their due, and the BMC Commissioner should take a lead in this.'' He added that the residents should benefit from the development of Dharavi.
