Erring doctor in Bhagwati is a state govt employee:BMC clarifies
Mumbai, July 21 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has clarified that the Post-Mortem centre at Bhagwati Hospital is a state run facility and the staff of this center does not belong to the civic body.
Joint municipal commissioner (Medical Education&Health) Dr S G Damle offered this clarification in an official statement, while commenting on the issue of a doctor in Bhagwati Hospital asking for money before handing over a body, to the relatives of the victims of Laxmi Chhaya building, which collapsed this week.
Dr Damle informed that the Post-Mortem center in Bhagwati is run by the state. All the staff and infrastructure of this center belongs to the state and the civic body has just rented out the space to the state government for citizen's convenience. Such establishments run by the state in the city come under the purview of the police surgeon. The concerned doctor is not an BMC employee and hence the issue does not concern the BMC, he added.
