Drought threat hovers over Agra division
Agra, July 21 (UNI) Drought threats are posing a problem for farmers in this division as less than average rainfall has been recorded so far this season.
The situation has become worse than the last few years with drought threats gripping Mathura, Firozabad, Aligarh and Mainpuri districts.
The scarce rainfall is adversely affecting the standing 'bajraa' and 'makka' crops in the fields. The hand-pumps have also dried up.
According to the Met department, this season, Agra recorded 117.6 mm of rainfall, which is 40 per cent less than the average.
While Etah witnessed 61 per cent less rainfall at 72 mm, Mathura recorded 59 per cent less showers at 64 mm.
The ground water level has dipped from 2 to 2.5 metre than the approximate level.
While administrative officers have passed directions to fight the drought situation, farmers are still awaiting rains.
