Cong Legislator appeals TN govt to release water

Chennai, July 21: Congress Legislator Vidiya S Sekar, representing Kangeym in the state Assembly, has appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to release water in lower Bhavani project canals, from Bhavani Sagar reservoir immediately for irrigation.

In his letter to state PWD Minister Duraimurugan, a copy of which was released to the press here today, Mr Sekar pointed out that since the Bhavani Sagar reservoir was overflowing, after crossing its full capacity of 32.8 ft, there would not be any problem if water was released from the reservoir.

He said due to the drought situation in Erode district, the crops like sugarcane, turmeric and sunflower and the banana plantation were withering.
