Atrocities against tribals to be raised in assembly

Jhabua, MP, July 21 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Assembly Opposition Leader Jamuna Devi demanded suspending police officials responsible for the death of a tribal due to police firing at Jhayda village in this district on June 15.

Ms Devi told reporters here today that the it was being attempted to put the matter under the carpet instead of taking strict action against the culprits.

She also demanded that an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh be provided to deceased Ramesh Vasunia's family members. Ms Devi met Ramesh' family members.

Congress party's Madhya Pradesh incharge General Secretary V Narayan Sami, state party President Subhash Yadav and Union Minister of State for Agriculture would visit Jhayda village tomorrow.

The Opposition Leader alleged that atrocities were being committed against tribals. She would raise the matter during the monsoon session in Vidhan Sabha.

An agitation would also be launched in Jhabua to protest against the alleged atrocities against tribals.

Ramesh was caught by police on the charge of carrying cow meat on June 15. Police opened fire when the accused tried to flee leading to his death.

The government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter.
