About 2 lakh pilgrims visited Amarnath shrine

Srinagar, July 21 (UNI) Notwithstanding the total melting of ice- Shivalingam and grenade attacks, about two lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country, including sadhus, paid obeisance at the revered holy Amarnth shrine this year.

An official spokesman said 4217 pilgrims, who had come from shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes, today paid obeisance at the cave shrine.

As many as 2586 yatris reached Pahalgam, while 1319 yatris at Baltal to start their towards the cave shrine tomorrow morning, he added.

He said 1.61 lakh yatries had so far visited the shrine since the two-month-long pilgrimage commenced from July 2. The yatra was scheduled to start from June 30 but was delayed due to bad weather.

However, more than 40,000 pilgrims had visited the shrine before the official commencement of the pilgrimage.

A grenade blast near the main gate of Baltal base camp left one local trader dead and 19 others, including a yatri wounded.

Today similar attack at Pahalgam base camp wounded 15 pilgrims who were hospitalised.
