SRES resort to agitation for better facilities

Chennai, July 20 (UNI) Members of Southern Railway Employees Sangh (SRES) staged a slogan shouting demonstration here today demanding pay fixation and improvement in the working conditions of railway employees.

Speaking on the occasion, M Raghavaiah, General Secretary, National Federation of Indian Railwaymen told newspersons that the railway employees, especially, the field staffs were working for more than twelve hours, without additional benefits.

Mr Raghavaiah also criticised the railway ministry for not according priority and action plan for the employees. The ministry is responsible for the woes of railway employees, he alleged.

He urged the execution of the Ansari Committee recommendation.

He also pointed out that despite the introduction of several new trains in the country in the recent years, the staff strength remained almost the same.

If there is no additional recruitment, it is well-nigh impossible to expect the quality of service and safety operations from the railway employees, he added.
