Meghalaya sets up task force for creation of districts
Shillong, Jul 20 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has constituted a task force to examine the feasibility of creating three more districts in the state.
Yesterday, Chief Minister D D Lapang convened a high level meeting and discussed the demand of various quarters to upgrade three Civil Sub-Divisions - Khliehriat, Ampati and Resubelpara to districts.
Presently, the state had seven administrative districts - West, East Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts in the Eastern region and East, West and South Garo Hills districts in the Western region.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma told reporters here that the meeting had decided to constitute a task force headed by Chief Secretary Ranjan Chatterjee to examine the feasibility.
The task force would examine the matter and submit its report to the government for consideration at the earliest.
Dr Sangma had also said that the government would soon upgrade -- Riangdo, Patharkhmah, Pynursla, Chokpot and others to Civil Sub Division.
He further said the government decided to address the issue considering the aspirations of the people of the state.
Meanwhile, Dr Sangma said the government was committed to looking into the social security of the college teachers, adding that measures would be initiated to ensure that.
The deputy chief minister further said a committee would examine the matter and submit a report to the Cabinet soon.
