MCD adopts policy on dangerous buildings
New Delhi, JulY 20 (UNI) Standing Committee Chairman, Vijender Gupta today unveiled the comprehensive policy adopted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to forestall danger to life and property against falling of dangerous buildings.
The policy comprises building-up of transit camps for dwellers of dangerous buildings during their repair, strengthening and reconstruction and stepping up of vigilance against dangerous and repairable buildings.
Mr Gupta said this was being done as most of the dwellers living in dangerous buildings belonged to the lower strata of society and needed temporary rehabilitation during the period of reconstruction.
To provide shelter to such inhabitants, the MCD would demand the Lt Governor and the DDA to provide land for building the transit camps.
Mr Gupta also informed that Delhi's Master Plan - 2025 takes into consideration the redevelopment of the city and the MCD would ensure that the plan takes into the account the interests of all concerned whether dwellers, tenants, owners or builders.
Stressing that it was important that the dwellers/tenants/owners were aware about their rights to strengthen and rebuild their houses, he said there were clear-cut provisions where no permission of MCD is required for strengthing of the existing structures.
