Hospitals would be connected to NIC through Internet:Minister

Chennai, July 20 (UNI) All Government Hospitals in the districts and Primary Health Centres would be connected to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) through the Internet to enable the hospital authorities to update information on 14 different communicable diseases, including Chikungunya, Malaria and Dengue, according to State Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran.

Mr Ramachandran, while inagurating a training session for Government doctors here today said ''this is the first such initiative in the country and this would help monitor outbreak of epidemics and facilitate its control''.

The minister said the facility would be implemented in 385 block PHCs, 270 Government Hospitals, District and Medical College Hospitals. Through the software, health situation would be monitored in 800 villages, apart from cities, he added.
