Haryana to spend Rs 24,000 cr on power sector
Chandigarh, July 20 (UNI) The Haryana government will spend a sum of Rs 24,000 crore for the generation, transmission and distribution of power in the state during the eleventh Plan period.
Fifty per cent of this amount would be spent on generation of power and the remaining amount on transmission and distribution system, said Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Power) Ashok Lavasa while presiding over a workshop on 'Best practice for maintenance and safety of Lifts and Escalators' at Heritage Village, Manesar today.
Mr Lavasa said the state would generate 4,500 MW power during this plan by starting generation of 600 M W Yamuna Nagar Thermal power plant, a 1,200 MW power plant at Khedar in Hisar, a 1,500 MW power plant at Jhajjar, and another power plant of 1,200 MW in the private sector at Jhajjar.
Giving details, he said the first unit of Yamuna Nagar Thermal would be commissioned in November 2007 whose 80 per cent work was almost complete and the second unit of 300 MW would be commissioned in February 2008.
He said the power plant of 1,200 MW. whose foundation was recently laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would be completed in a record period of 35 months and start generation in December, 2009.
He said a power plant usually took 39 months for its completion.
Mr Lavasa said 1,500 MW Power Plant to be constructed jointly by the Haryana, Delhi and National Thermal Power Corporation at Jhajjar would be completed before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010.
He said a power plant was also coming up at Jhajjar in the private sector for which the bidding process are in progress.
