Four employees of Bhagwati hospital arrested
Mumbai, July 20 (UNI) Four employees attached to the morgue of the civic run Bhagwati hospital were arrested today for allegedly demanding money from the relatives of a deceased, who was crushed to death in the Borivali building collapse incident.
The arrested have been identified as Narendra Sukur Kadu (43), Mahendra Pritam Solanki (38), Chandrakant Balkrishan Jagakosh (40) and Uttam Subhash Bangar (30).
They had allegedly demanded Rs 1,200 from the relatives of the bereaved, to give a specific injection and put cotton in the body, which would enable them to take the body to their native place, Rajasthan.
They have been arrested on charges of extortion, police said.
Meanwhile, Dr Swarup Vishwanath Bhalepatil (35), attached to Bhagwati hospital was defaced and manhandled by 30 to 35 Nationalist Congress Party activists at around 2115 hrs yesterday, in relation to this issue.
The activists told mediapersons that they had received complaints from the concerned relatives. Subsequently, they rushed to Dr Bhalepatil's chamber and blackened his face, since he was in-charge of the morgue.
A case of 'rioting' has been registered against some local NCP activists but no arrests have been made so far, police said.
