Cabinet approves compensation for power project-affected people
Itanagar, Jul 20 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh government today decided to release compensation amounting to Rs 9.6 crore, paid by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC) executing the project, to the project-affected people.
The 2000 MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project was yet to get the final nod from the Supreme Court for its execution.
Addressing a press conference, government spokesman Tako Dabi said the Power Secretary would prepare the list of beneficiaries for payment of the compensation.
Besides creating a community development block for Wakka in Tirap district, the Cabinet constituted various committees to look into vital issues concerning the state, Mr Dabi, also Water Resources Minister, said.
Taking serious note of the mushrooming of registered NGOs engaged in politics instead of their prescribed objectives, the Cabinet constituted a committee, headed by PWD and UD Minister Nabam Tuki, to look into various aspects of registration, including enhancing registration of fees to regulate the NGOs.
Another committee with Land Management Minister Atum Welly as member and Tax and the Excise Commissioner-Secretary as member-secretary was expected to submit its report in a month, he said.
Besides, a committee headed by Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and Education Minister Tatar Kipa and Finance Minister Kalikho Pul as members would look into the centrally sponsored mid-day meal programme, earlier implemented by the Social Welfare, Women and Child Development department.
The Education Secretary would initiate action for making the programme operational.
Following the Supreme Court decision to grant the Scheduled Tribes rights on traditional and community forest land, a committee, headed by Environment and Forest Minister Newlai Tingkhatra Tuki and Industries Minister Tanga Bylaing as members and PCCF as member-secretary, was constituted to study the feasibility of the directive in relation to Arunachal.
To look into the placements of Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service (APCS) cadre posts, a committee, headed by Home Minister Jarbom Gamlin and Pul and IPR and P Minister Lombo Tayeng as members and joint secretary of personnel as member-secretary, had been constituted, Mr Dabi added.
